Planning for Mock Exam

The title for the news programme is called news now. The programme will be on BBC One at 4:30 because that is a time when most teenagers are out of school and will have the TV on when they come home from school. The programme will be on for half an hour at a time as teenagers might get bored if the news is on for too long. The news will have two different segments because the first segment will be on the news in the world then the second segment will be on the teens local news as teens want to know what is going on around them than what is going on around the world. The news will incorporate news that teens feel relates to them such as weather of big games or music events. The structure will be that at the start the reports will talk about the problems in the world and the end will be the local news talking about what the teens could do outside of school and the problems in the local area. Presenters will be young adults around 20 years old so that the teens could feel they relate to the news. The programme will cover local weather, local areas to go out, problematic local news and world news such as war and economics. The logo is a N and a backwards N to resemble News Now. The colour scheme is red because it stands out and is a specific colour of economics and news. The news will contain social media links and will have a website for games areas and places to discuss the local news with teenagers who live near you. On the website you have seven days in advance of the weather when there are festivals.

Teens will be able interact by sending in comments through social media such as Facebook and Twitter. They will also be able to interact on the News Now website where they can talk with teens around where they live. The audience will be able to discuss local matters and news in the world such as their opinions on war.

Research For Mock Exam

The programmes I chose to research are: BBC News At 10 and ITV News London.

1st day BBC News:

The bulletin is on 20/3/13. The main story is a discussion in the houses of parliament. This is the 10:00 bulletin. The programme has voice overs at the start to show the audience what the stories will be coming up in the news programme. Most of the time the camera is a cut into the next shot. Previews of the news at the start could keep the audience watching because there might be a story they are interested in. The bulletin does not have much technology in it because the target audience could be for a older generation.

2nd day BBC News:

This bulletin is on 21/05/13. The main story is of a tornado in Oklahoma, USA. This bulletin is also a ten o'clock news programme. The programme had the generic structure of a news programme such as the explanation of the story then a interview and after that it goes back to a report or a voice over. At the end of the bulletin the presenter says to go onto the website for more however there is no social media tags.

3rd day of BBC News:

The final BBC News programme is the bulletin of 30/10/2014. The main story is about drug abuse and fighting against drugs. At the start of the programme it had the generic dramatic music of BBC News programmes. Also at the start there were many voice overs giving the audience more info about the stories coming up by showing the audience the story then slightly explaining it. This could also encourage the audience to carry on watching because they know exactly what is going to happen and they can decide if the report appeals to them.

ITV News 1st day:

This bulletin was on air on the 9/6/14. The main story was of Islamic infiltration in schools in Birmingham. The start of the programme there is many voice overs and when the shot is of the set it is very modern and the presenter is smartly dressed to show that the news is professional. In the shot it does  not show any gadgets/technology because the shot is a medium close up and you can only see the upper torso of the presenter.

 ITV News 2nd day:

The second bulletin is on 18th April 2014. The main story is of a High School Teacher commits suicide. The presenter is dressed smartly and is wearing generic political colours. The presenter is in a modernized set .

ITV News 3rd day:

The final bulletin is on 16/01/13. The main story of this bulletin is a helicopter crash in Britain. their is the generic male and female presenter, they are dressed formally and at the start there is a interview after the voice overs at the start. In this bulletin there is some technology such as an Ipad. Also in this bulletin the backdrop is the colour of the logo.

Institution:

BBC's  general director is Tony Hall. BBC is funded by the public/ TV licenses. BBC aim to enrich people using the programmes they use on the channel and to give entertainment to many people. They also aim to be the most creative organisation in the world. BBC began in the 1920's however the television started in the 1930's.

ITV's Chairman is Archie Norman and the Chief executive is Adam Croizer. The ITV is funded and gets its profit from adverts. ITV is an integrator producer broadcaster and operate many family channels. The institution uses studios to produce their own TV channels. ITV first started to broadcast on channel 3 in 1955.

The target audience for BBC News At Ten is 55% male, 45% female. The target age is around 26 to 50 and is aimed around people with a professional job as the news is more sophisticated at this time and because professional workers have started to rest in their living room which is a good reason to put the news on at that time. The social class for this news is mostly AB. BBC News is also aimed more at men because BBC might believe that men are more interested in current affairs then woman.

The target audience for ITV News is also 55% male, 45% female as the news shows are very similar in some aspects such as they have a similar structure to their news. However the ITV News is less sophisticated than BBC News so it could attract the working class too. Also the presenter wears slightly more casual dressing than the presenters on BBC News suggesting that it is aimed at the working class more than the middle class. The age of people who would watch this show is 24 to 42.
