Planning for Mock Exam

The title for the news programme is called news now. The programme will be on BBC One at 4:30 because that is a time when most teenagers are out of school and will have the TV on when they come home from school. The programme will be on for half an hour at a time as teenagers might get bored if the news is on for too long. The news will have two different segments because the first segment will be on the news in the world then the second segment will be on the teens local news as teens want to know what is going on around them than what is going on around the world. The news will incorporate news that teens feel relates to them such as weather of big games or music events. The structure will be that at the start the reports will talk about the problems in the world and the end will be the local news talking about what the teens could do outside of school and the problems in the local area. Presenters will be young adults around 20 years old so that the teens could feel they relate to the news. The programme will cover local weather, local areas to go out, problematic local news and world news such as war and economics. The logo is a N and a backwards N to resemble News Now. The colour scheme is red because it stands out and is a specific colour of economics and news. The news will contain social media links and will have a website for games areas and places to discuss the local news with teenagers who live near you. On the website you have seven days in advance of the weather when there are festivals.

Teens will be able interact by sending in comments through social media such as Facebook and Twitter. They will also be able to interact on the News Now website where they can talk with teens around where they live. The audience will be able to discuss local matters and news in the world such as their opinions on war.

Research For Mock Exam

The programmes I chose to research are: BBC News At 10 and ITV News London.

1st day BBC News:

The bulletin is on 20/3/13. The main story is a discussion in the houses of parliament. This is the 10:00 bulletin. The programme has voice overs at the start to show the audience what the stories will be coming up in the news programme. Most of the time the camera is a cut into the next shot. Previews of the news at the start could keep the audience watching because there might be a story they are interested in. The bulletin does not have much technology in it because the target audience could be for a older generation.

2nd day BBC News:

This bulletin is on 21/05/13. The main story is of a tornado in Oklahoma, USA. This bulletin is also a ten o'clock news programme. The programme had the generic structure of a news programme such as the explanation of the story then a interview and after that it goes back to a report or a voice over. At the end of the bulletin the presenter says to go onto the website for more however there is no social media tags.

3rd day of BBC News:

The final BBC News programme is the bulletin of 30/10/2014. The main story is about drug abuse and fighting against drugs. At the start of the programme it had the generic dramatic music of BBC News programmes. Also at the start there were many voice overs giving the audience more info about the stories coming up by showing the audience the story then slightly explaining it. This could also encourage the audience to carry on watching because they know exactly what is going to happen and they can decide if the report appeals to them.

ITV News 1st day:

This bulletin was on air on the 9/6/14. The main story was of Islamic infiltration in schools in Birmingham. The start of the programme there is many voice overs and when the shot is of the set it is very modern and the presenter is smartly dressed to show that the news is professional. In the shot it does  not show any gadgets/technology because the shot is a medium close up and you can only see the upper torso of the presenter.

 ITV News 2nd day:

The second bulletin is on 18th April 2014. The main story is of a High School Teacher commits suicide. The presenter is dressed smartly and is wearing generic political colours. The presenter is in a modernized set .

ITV News 3rd day:

The final bulletin is on 16/01/13. The main story of this bulletin is a helicopter crash in Britain. their is the generic male and female presenter, they are dressed formally and at the start there is a interview after the voice overs at the start. In this bulletin there is some technology such as an Ipad. Also in this bulletin the backdrop is the colour of the logo.

Institution:

BBC's  general director is Tony Hall. BBC is funded by the public/ TV licenses. BBC aim to enrich people using the programmes they use on the channel and to give entertainment to many people. They also aim to be the most creative organisation in the world. BBC began in the 1920's however the television started in the 1930's.

ITV's Chairman is Archie Norman and the Chief executive is Adam Croizer. The ITV is funded and gets its profit from adverts. ITV is an integrator producer broadcaster and operate many family channels. The institution uses studios to produce their own TV channels. ITV first started to broadcast on channel 3 in 1955.

The target audience for BBC News At Ten is 55% male, 45% female. The target age is around 26 to 50 and is aimed around people with a professional job as the news is more sophisticated at this time and because professional workers have started to rest in their living room which is a good reason to put the news on at that time. The social class for this news is mostly AB. BBC News is also aimed more at men because BBC might believe that men are more interested in current affairs then woman.

The target audience for ITV News is also 55% male, 45% female as the news shows are very similar in some aspects such as they have a similar structure to their news. However the ITV News is less sophisticated than BBC News so it could attract the working class too. Also the presenter wears slightly more casual dressing than the presenters on BBC News suggesting that it is aimed at the working class more than the middle class. The age of people who would watch this show is 24 to 42.

Poster And Trailer Analysis!

The central image is of the main protagonist and very famous actress Jennifer Lawrence. This is a USP because if  the actress has many fans they will come to watch the movie and bring profit to the producing company/companies. In the central image she is using a bow which shows dominance and that she is ready against anything. This central is very symbolic too the movies as the secondary image is the Mocking Jay which in the books and movies is the spark of rebellion. Since the Central Image is covering the symbol shows anyone who is going to watch the movie has to have watch the one before. The title tells the audience that this movie is a sequel of the one before which could be a USP as the people who enjoyed the last movie will come to watch the next to find out what is happening. The Tagline makes the reader feel that they want to find out about the enemy and if the main character or any other characters go to the enemy side and kill there allies. The tagline is also effective as the rebellion is of the hunger games which is killing to survive but the tagline tells us that the creators are the enemies not the fighters. The release date shows that the movie was coming out on November 22nd 2013. This is a USP because if fans know when the movie is coming out then they could go to the first day it is on and the distributors and producers will get more money overall as the fans are watching it in the cinema. The production blurb tells the reader who made the film as they could want to watch other films directed by the same person of produced by the same company for example lots of people go to watch Disney films as Disney produced them.

The film producer of this movie is lionsgte and the director is frances lawrence. The main actor who has become very famous from the hunger games is Jennifer Lawrence. Other actors are Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. In the first scene of the trailer you see the main character with her family which shows that they want to show a insight to her life after winning the hunger games in the earlier film. There is fast paced scenes to show the rioting and that people where fighting. The rapid scenes flow with the trailer as it is showing the action aspect of the movie. This creates the feeling of enigma. There is not much writing in this trailer it is more diegetic sound of the actors speaking in the film. The movie came out on 22nd November 2013. The trailer tells the audience the twitter tag and face book page.

Film Pitch!

THE FOURTH RIKE

Log line in bold:

Hitler wins WW2; a wanted British sergeant named "Thomas Smith" is a fugitive, running from the Germans; he travels around Europe fleeing from death. He meets the love of his life, a German women! The Nazi's find out the women is with the fugitive and they threaten to kill her to. The fugitive does all he can to save his loved one. The sergeant go's through many obstacles through the way of getting his loved one into safety. The genre of this film is an alternative historical drama and has some aspects of action. I used this for the genre as it is different and not many people has made films like this movie. Also this could attract a wider range of audiences as this is a genre made up of many other genres like action and drama. This film is a cross between "Romeo & Juliet" and an episode in "Misfits." about Hitler winning world war 2. This film targets a audience who enjoy action and historical dramas however the aspect of Hitler winning the war could attract a wider audience. The movie is aimed at the age of 18+ because younger teens might not want to watch a movie in the genre of historical drama. This movie is aimed at 60% male 40% female because males will be appealed by some of the more seductive scenes and the way the women are portrayed in the movie. This movie is based on the fugitive as the hero and the German women as the "damsel in distress." The Nazis who are trying to kill them both are the main enemies/villains.

Film Institution!

Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I chose this film because there is a lot to talk about the film as there is many aspects of different genres and has a big studio running the movies.

The production companies are Lionsgate and Color Force and the distributor for the UK is also Lionsgate. Lionsgate is a very famous production company as they have made many other hit films. The company can spend lots of money on these movies as they know that the movie will be a big hit as the other movies were very famous. The fact that Lionsgate is also the distributor also shows that they are a famous company and has distributed many other films to the UK.

The genre of this movie is action and adventure however has aspects of sci-fi. You can tell it fits the genre as there is killing for action and there is survival which shows the adventure in the movie. The fact that they look for food and water also shows that their is a few fantasy aspects as they are on a quest to survive and find the necessary items to survive. There is rebellion in the streets which fits into the action aspect of the movie. This movie is a sequel from the hunger games before this one. Companies spent a lot of money on this movie as they know that the movie before did very well. The movie used the sign of the movies and books, the Mocking Jay  which is also the names of the other the last book. The sign is in all of the movies as in the story it is the sign of the "rebellion" towards the "Capitol." Also the actress Jennifer Lawrence has become very famous due to the Hunger Games films and many people go to watch the other movies she is in which brings business to their companies meaning that lots of people hire her for movies.

The UK release date for the movie was 21st of November 2013. Also the teaser trailer came out on the 17th of April 2013 and the main trailer came out on 21st July 2013. To help marketing there is other marketing strategies such as interviews, there was an interview with Jennifer Lawrence on 11th November 2013.

The original budget for this film was $130,000,000 however the gross was $864,565,663 which means that it was a very big fit. The fact that the production company Lionsgate got alot of profit means that they would produce the next movie and get a bigger profit since the movie was a big hit.

Since the last movie was very popular and many people were talking about it implies that lots of fans will be talking about the new movies. This helps the producer as they know they will get a profit and they can spend less money on marketing. Lots of social media sites users interact with others and the word of the new movie can go around very rapidly threw mutual friends ETC. Some reviews are " Catching Fire is a great experience" and "Catching Fire is exceptional entertainment" however some people did not enjoy the movie saying " You don't feel the characters" and "This movie couldn' be more borring." This shows that sometimes word of the mouth can also be bad for the produces and they could lose money.

The director of this movie is Francis Lawrence and he was the director of the movie before this one. He is known for directing "I Am Legend" and "Constantine." These movies are not in the same genre as "Catching Fire" because "Constantine" is a horror/drama film and "I Am Legend" is a thriller however has aspects of Sci-Fi. The main star of "Catching Fire" is Jennifer Lawrence who has become very famous do to this series. Since Jennifer has become famous she has starred in X-Men: Apocalypse, American Hustle, Joy and Winters Bone. In American Hustle it says Jennifer's name in the trailer. This movie came out after Catching Fire implying that she has become a big hit and producers want her in many other movies.

shot description

 Extreme Wide shot:

We took the extreme wide shot for the first picture because we needed it to set the scene for the school drama. Using this image first the audience will know what the drama/ story is about. However this shot is telling the audience where the drama takes place it doesn't show the people in it.

Medium close-up shot:
We took the MCU Shot second to show the main character so that the audience has a brief idea who the character is. The actor used an angry face to show that the person thought she was cool or popular. This shot tells that the main character is not a nice person and her stance shows that she has attitude which also indicates that this school has drama in it and people will keep watching. The camera angle is from the bottom showing she is powerful and can hurt someone.

Medium Close-Up:

We took another MCU Shot so that we could inform the audience who was being bullied/picked on. This actor is crying and putting their head down to show that they are weak and vulnerable to being bullied. Also the fact that his head is down suggests that he is scared by something, you can tell this by not being able to see his face and that he is hunched in the corner suggesting that he feels worthless. The shot is taking from above showing that he is weak and has no power over anyone.

Wide Shot:

We took the wide shot next to show that the bully is picking on the the vulnerable victim. The Victim is below the bully showing that she has more power and that the Victim cannot do anything about it. The Bully is pushing him to the bin indicating that she thinks the Victim is rubbish and worthless. The Victim is still hunched which shows he is scared and trying to defend himself.

Wide Shot:

This is a wide showing that the Victim had been hit and he cannot do anything about it also showing that he is weaker. This shot was taken t show how cruel people could be to other people and to show drama in the show so people will be interested in watching and other episodes.

Close-Up:

We took this last to focus on the actors emotions and how he feels after being bullied/hurt. He is crying and he might be feeling that he has no one to turn to.The reason we did a close-up for this is in the story line we have to show the audience how he is feeling and that he had been effected by the bulling and he cannot take it any more. The white background stops people focus on it and focusing on his face and really feeling his emotion.

Minority Report-Analysis

This is a picture/shot from the movie 'Minority Report' of flying police trying to capture the fugitive. This is a Medium Close-Up of the officers staring at what could be the fugitive. This shot has been taken to show how the officers/police are feeling at that moment of time. The shot was also taken to show that all the officers were worried suggesting that the fugitive is a big threat. This shot has also been taken to tell the audience that they are police walking in a line to show there profession and that they might be going to try capture the fugitive. The camera angle has been taking from a straight line so the audience can focus on their expression and know that they could be feeling scared. Also the fact that they need more than 1 or 2 police shows that the fugitive is a very big threat.

This is a wide shot showing all the action in the scene so the audience knows what is happening in this scene. This shot is from people falling from a high building or ledge and falling onto a car making the sparks that was used with SFX. The scaffolding in the background shows that this is a dangerous scene and makes the audience think that they had fallen from there. The person in the background suggests that there was more than one person on the fugitive also shown in the last picture. Also the wide screen tells the audience where this scene is taken place. the fact that the scene is in an alleyway suggests the police could catch the fugitive and since there is more one police from the other picture means the audience could be scared that he might not get out with gives suspension/enigma.

This camera shot is a close-up of the main characters face. This shot focuses on the main characters expression. The expression on his face suggests that he might of just defeat the police or he might of escaped as. In this shot the light is on his face and the background is very dark suggesting that he is more powerful and more superior than the police. The light on his face shows that he is a hero, you can only see one side of his face which suggests he might of been hurt or he is turning to face fully to the side which also creates suspension. In the background you can see some rubble from a building suggesting that he had just beat the police or the police had fallen into the dustbin. The main character has a frowning face making the audience see that he is proud and has heroic qualities.

media advert

Media Analysis!

Language:
The genre of this advert is sport. The advert is advertising the sports drink Powerade. This ad has many key conventions such as the logo of Powerade telling the customer/ person looking at the ad what is being advertised. This ad is also advertising the Olympics because if they advertise the Olympics people could go to the Olympics and buy their drinks which would give them a profit. The slogan for the company is power through. The person in the advert is Jessica Ennis, an Olympic gold medallist for track and field events. They use Jessica Ennis as she is a very popular athlete. In the ad they use text to say if you work hard you will get better however in they imply that to get better you need to be drinking Powerade. This text is a quote of Jessica Ennis saying that she needs to drink Powerade to be a good athlete, which could make the public think that they need the drink so they can be better for a variety of sports.
Institution:
The multinational institution behind Powerade is the Coca-Cola Company. The ad shows that they are in competition with other sports drinks such as Lucozade as the text implies that you need then drink to stay hydrated and get better in sport. The founder of the Coca-Cola Company is Asa Griggs Candler.
Audience:
The audience for Powerade would be 60% male 40% female as generally more men do exercise then females also energy drinks are more popular with young teen and adult men. The drink is aimed at people who go to the gym or people who are very sports orientated however the Coca-Cola Company knows that young boys in schools and people who are not doing exercise drink it through target research.
Representation:

People would recognise the person in the advert as a star athlete and seen as an icon for people who want to be like her so people will buy the drink. The public will assume that she drinks this to be a good athlete. She is running to show that she is going to be in the Olympics or some type of race. Also the light shines on her face making her look more intimidating and superior. The blue colour is showing hydration and energy, also the black background is showing more suspense of what is going to happen. She is not wearing any girly colours and there is no girly background colours showing domination.
